The Glass Games show at The Gallery on Redchurch Street, hosted by the Contemporary Glass Society.

The work on show is very good with some pieces being exceptional. I was particularly taken with Chris Wood’s glass and light installation called Tendrilla, that seemed to move and shimmer as you watched despite being entirely still and lit by only one lamp. Also impressive was Nobuyasu Yoshida’s kiln-cast glass form called Relation. Two forms held together by dripping tendrils.

Also of note were David Reekie’s Throwers which conflates the riots in London with the poses and stances of athletics. They are massive lost-wax works with considerable power. In juxtaposition is Rowan van der Holt’s Crown with Perennial Wreath, a reworking of the Olympic rings in delicate flame-worked glass. Finally there’s Heike Brachlow’s Avis II. I think Heike’s work is wonderful and this piece is startling to see to be near. It’s a glass ring held on a metal spike balancing on a thin rod.
